Palmer Luckey's ModRetro — the company behind the Game Boy Color inspired Chromatic handheld —have announced they're taking on the Nintendo 64 next.

Even if you don't know who Luckey is, you probably know one of the things he's helped create in the gaming industry.

The ModRetro Chromatic is super popular with retro gaming fans, but he's also the man behind Oculus. You know, the VR company Meta bought to create the ever-so-popular Quest 2 and 3 headsets?

Now, Luckey's retro gaming company has announced that it's taking on the N64 with a new device coming next year.

It's the "most authentic" way to play N64 games

"ModRetro's newest product is M64," Luckey said in a post on X. "The best and most authentic way to play your favorite N64 games, bar none. Prepare your wallet and brace your mind."

And, it's launching at the same price as the original console — $199.99.

He added: "This is real gameplay on real hardware using our real core. The most efficient and accurate reimplementation of the original by far.

"We will show off the final design and launch preorders for hardware, new titles, and re-released classics pending final legal checks."

The man behind the M64 tagged AMD in the second tweet, leaving many confident that the new console is going to be powered by one of their processors.

Which one, though... We'll have to wait to see.

ModRetro isn't the first company to attempt to create a N64 copy, either. Analogue, known for its Game Boy-esque Pocket handheld, revealed the Analogue 3D about a year ago.

It keep's getting delayed, however, so who knows when we'll get to see it in customer's hands. Right now, it's set to ship sometime in August.
